I've seen this with audio and not just music. The guy spends the whole time talking about younger days and how things are or we're with casual gossip. Old man ranting basically. He's nervous but very thankful and I think he likes having someone listen to him as much as the hair cut.

I've watched the original, no he wasn't. He wasn't really emotional at any point.
14

At the very end it looks like he said āMan that feels so much better.ā So seems like he appreciated it at the very least.
3
u/Speak_basquedtdt 2d ago
Iām sure his beard does. I canāt imagine how hot and itchy it would get in the summer. I know I always feel better when I can get my long hair cut short and itās not laying on my neck. I prefer to have shorter hair. Iāve done long hair almost to my butt and itās pretty but Iām always happier when my hair is shorter. Shoulder length is as long as I like it.

u/ForcedAccount420 2d ago
The formal name for it is Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
52
u/Speak_basquedtdt 2d ago
Yeah I looked it up. Poor guy. I hope he gets his vitamins and some medical help. We need some little free clinics in the cities for basic stuff like this.
24
u/KBolt99 2d ago
Imo beer and wine should be fortified with very small tasteless amounts of Vitamin B1. Just like how we fortify salt to prevent goiters and fortify cereals to prevent mineral deficiencies. That would totally prevent this whole issue and probably completely eliminate Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome in this country.
But because alcohol isnāt regulated like all other food and drink, those type of pro-consumer moves never happen. Hell, half the time I canāt even find the nutritional information or ingredients for most alcohol, even online its often not available. If they wonāt even tell you what its made of, I highly doubt theyāll start fortifying it with vitamins anytime soon, despite vitamin b1 being extremely cheap.
11
u/Snow_Wonder 2d ago
Alcohol can hinder absorption of some vitamins, especially if itās being consumed in excess. I wonder if this would even be effective?
8
u/Ruddfuckerin 2d ago
It wouldn't. It especially hinders B-vitamin absorption. B1 (Thiamine) deficiency is very common amongst alcoholics for that reason
9
u/RadsCatMD 2d ago
Korsakoff is irreversible. Also, most people who drink alcohol to the point of becoming encephalopathic wouldn't seek out vitamin clinics (they develop this because the majority of their nutrition is alcohol)
32
u/Upleftright_syndrome 2d ago
That's a good observation. I also feel that maybe he has COPD. You can see the heavy breathing in the beginning.
In the years leading up to my father's death, he moved just like that trying to get as much air as he could into his lungs. The same hunch and everything.

I grew up in an alcoholic family and have also volunteered to help the homeless at various points.
Unlike a tweaker who displays extreme movements, someone that appears to have wet brain has a calmer body but their eyes jolt and thereās random jolts of the body.
A healthy but nervous person fidgets repetitiously in patterns but their eyes donāt randomly jolt around
2
u/cosmic-tombs 2d ago
Thank you. Knowing this kind of indicator (ex: dilated eyes, scratching, etc) can often be helpful in emergency situations, and generally it's helpful to be able to tell with some certainty what certain behaviors may be indicative of. I volunteer at a food pantry (mostly in the kitchen, but sometimes delivering meals) and it's always crazy how the volunteers with medical training can rattle off what our guests are likely suffering from in the same way you did.
3
u/mindseye1212 2d ago

My daughter has this problem (can't look people in the eye). She was raised by a mother who couldn't do it herself from birth to six years old. They were virtually inseparable. I adopted her just before she turned seven and we worked on it constantly. Now 26, she's much better, but still relapses from time to time. There is learned behavior, but this man could be suffering from something else.

For those who are cynical, stop.
Stop hating on othersā kindness because you feel you received none.Maybe someone is bad to you but you will always find someone else who will be nice to you. If you cannot find it, keep moving, keep searching.
