I agree completely with Sir Anthony Hopkin's letter to Brian Cranston about Breaking Bad and it's acting:
“Dear Mister Cranston.
I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.
I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season — to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. [Ed note: There are in fact five seasons of Breaking Bad; this might have been wishful thinking.] (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.
I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!
Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.
I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.
But this work of yours is spectacular — absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department — casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.
From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.
If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone — Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada — everyone —everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.
Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.
You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.
That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.
Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.
Best regards
Tony Hopkins.”

He doesn’t speak that way in life, he was just able to make it sound natural. If you go to the acting subreddit and watch people “act”, it just seems artificial.

Removed from context, even the best actors can seem unnatural. Go watch some famous auditions on YouTube to see what I mean. When you add in cinematography, lighting, music, etc, it all helps to sell it.

Yep pretty much. He was perfect for the role, it shows, but seeing some of his other work, well.... his acting range was that. I remember watching Need for speed, and it was just Jessie Pinkman doing Don Torreto. Not sure if I've seen him in anything since.

Back when season 6 was coming out, he tweeted that he was calling fans to talk about the episode that was premiering that night
I was in college and had been at a boat party that day, so I was suuper drunk and tweeted him my phone number. He called me a few hours later and I was absolutely, stupidly hammered.
He asked me if I had any questions about what happened on the episode. It was the one that ends with Jesse pouring gasoline all throughout the whites house (so there were SO many obvious questions to ask), but I hadn’t watched it yet and I was drunk as fuck so l was like “uhhh not really”
Ok let me tell you, Aaron is a fucking nice guy. I’m clearly drunk and obviously hadn’t watched the episode, but I end up talking to him for like 45 minutes while I cry like an idiot over a boyfriend I’d broken up with 2 days before. He’s literally giving me relationship advice for a solid 10 minutes.
It was such a fucking weird experience that I could’ve easily convinced myself it had been a dream. Woke up to a DM from his real account the next morning though (giving me last minute relationship advice 😂) but yeah, that weird shit actually happened and Aaron Paul is a badass

My wife and I met him during his/Cranston’s promotional tour of their Mezcal, and he was extremely, extremely nice. Originally it was going to be a very quick bottle signing/picture from across a table, but Brian Cranston’s flight got delayed and he couldn’t make it, so to make it up to the hundreds of people waiting in line, he made it a much more personal meet-and-greet, taking the time to stand and chat with every single person for a minute or two, take a dozen pictures, the works.

I love tv and movies. The very last thing I want to do is drive a bus around to gawk at peoples private residences. I find it really weird thats a thing people do.

I met Bob Odenkirk at a bar in ABQ back in 2014, he was telling me about Better Call Saul and how different it seemed from Breaking Bad, I don’t think they had been too far into filming it at that point. He was such a nice guy, genuinely curious about my line of work, and he offered to buy my dinner. We got to talking about his kids and the southwest. The interaction turned out to be much longer and more meaningful than I expected from a celeb.

Funny story about Aaron Paul. The family and I were up in McCall Idaho during early Covid. We were driving around the lake one day down this little dirt road and came upon 4 people on bikes. One was bald but thats all we could see. I told my wife, wouldn’t that be cool if that was Aaron Paul? Drove a little closer to them and sure enough it was him, his wife, and a few friends. We said hi out our window as we drove past them (they stopped to let us by). My wife said I love you, he said I love you too, and that was that.

Honestly I only really hated Skyler early season 2.
Mostly because passive-aggressiveness is something that really pisses me of and Anna Gunn's portrayal was just absolutely perfect. Most often in tv it is over the top but here, it was frustratingly perfect.

Sometimes a few lectures (or even one) by true professionals are much better than a year of different classes with not so good professors. That's what I realised after 3 years of my University.
Pretty sure it works with acting as well. Paul could learn a lot from all of actors he worked with.

Some people are naturals.
More like some people acted since they were in highschool and therefore accumulated enough practice and knowledge to become quite good in it. Modern educational sciences have proven that “being natural” doesn’t mean that someone was good at something out of thin air and since they were born, there have been active and passive influences that actually contributed to people being good in doing something.
