Yes. Now do him again, over and over, for each grieving family who has suffered for his lies!

Note: I know he has many upcoming trials and I'm here for it.

2

u/Snorblatz 9 5d ago

The amount of suffering those families have endured just takes my breath away

I agree with others that he will slimeball his way out of payments BUT I hope that his phone/texts expose the Jan 6 sedition plans!

14

u/CMAHawaii 5 7d ago

He a fucking lying piece of shit. Put yourself in the place of the dead kids parents. No, there's slander laws for one, you can't lie about people.

10

u/infernalspacemonkey 5 7d ago

Question. this is for one family. Will other families get a chance to sue him as he defamed them too?

3

u/Different-Pea-212 6 5d ago

I'm confused about that too as in the article it states multiple families have cases against him for this same thing - in the video the mother said it was a win for the families, maybe they are sharing the money with other effected families? (If they ever get it!)

11

u/fischmi2 1 7d ago

He’s a crisis actor. There was no trial.

Yes, but putting addresses out causing families to move multiple times and causing disruption in their life is another thing. Question all you want, don’t send your fan base to harass these people.

Yeah that didn't happen.

11

u/Forcefedlies 9 7d ago

It 100% happened.. did you not pay attention to his last court case a few years ago?

Alex Jones used to be entertaining to watch his bohemian grove and gay frog days, this false flag shit is where I was like “eh, no”. He went overboard and became a scumbag with these parents.

Punitive damages are capped at $750k in TX, so they will not get paid nearly like they should.

6

u/GabigolB 4 6d ago

Is that the policy Abbott put in place years after he was able to get millions after his own incident? Got his, and didn’t want anyone else to get theirs.

1

u/OMGoblin A 4d ago

Correct

1

u/KingKudzu117 6 6d ago

750k so far… there’s a pending case in CT

3

u/GabrielBFranco 7 6d ago

That’s per plaintiff.

34

u/Darth-Binks-1999 7 7d ago

Anyone else get the sinking feeling that this will go to a higher court and he'll get away scott free?

7

u/bored_on_the_web 7 7d ago

I doubt that. His best strategy at this point though is to stall the process out as long as possible. Maybe declare bankruptcy. Financially hide his assets away so that he broke on paper, etc.

20

u/r1dogz 7 7d ago

Is justice really served? He’s never gonna pay any of it, and will get out of it like all republicans do.

21

u/MisterStrawberry 4 7d ago

I thought that the maximum punitive damages in Texas are limited to $700k? So they can ask him to pay 45mil, but the state cap kicks in and that becomes a purely symbolic amount?

You know: America?

6

u/iBrarian 8 7d ago

I thought it was 4.5Mil not 45?

12

u/CuppaMatt 8 7d ago

4.2 mil was the first figure, 45 mil on top of that is the punitive damages that were added.

2

u/iBrarian 8 7d ago

Oh wow I missed that.

3

u/CuppaMatt 8 7d ago

This is also only the first trial. He has at least two more to go.

3

u/iBrarian 8 7d ago

Yeesh. He effed up, bigtime.

2

u/dontknow16775 7 7d ago

Did he really. It seems to me he will declare bankruptcy or do some other shenanigans walk away

2

u/iBrarian 8 7d ago

Yeah probably will find a way to get out of paying. Didn't he already claim under oath that he was bankrupt and the judge called him out that (supposedly) applying for bankruptcy protection isn't the same as being bankrupt?

2

u/CuppaMatt 8 7d ago

Ohh, & the Jan 6th committee is also getting a forensic copy of his phone. With every message from the last two years on it.

u/GabrielBFranco 7 7d ago

Fun fact: punitive damages of this sort can’t be bankrupted.

19

u/polyglotpinko 8 7d ago edited 7d ago

Came here to say this. I'm not a bankruptcy attorney, but I am an attorney, and I remember very clearly from law school that in general, punitive damages can't be discharged in bankruptcy (usually; there are always exceptions) because a jury thought you behaved badly enough to warrant them. Letting you discharge them would be a get out of jail free card.

7

u/GabrielBFranco 7 7d ago

Also an attorney. If the punitive damages are from intentional or malicious conduct, they are ineligible for bankruptcy discharge.

3

u/polyglotpinko 8 7d ago

That’s what I thought, but like I said, I’m not a bankruptcy attorney; my expertise is in immigration primarily. Thanks for clarifying.

1

u/lllllll______lllllll 8 7d ago

Meaning ?

8

u/Dufresne85 6 7d ago

You can still declare bankruptcy, but you still owe the debt from the punitive damages. It's like federal student loans; the only ways out are to pay it off or die

7

u/alucardou 8 7d ago

And its not one of the fun states where the maximum punitive damages is $350k?

1

u/Sciencetor2 9 7d ago

750k in texas

0

u/GabrielBFranco 7 6d ago

Per plaintiff.

0

u/Sciencetor2 9 6d ago

Can we sue his advertising sponsors too? They’re funding this garbage and they’re the most culpable IMO.

6

u/BuckeyeInSeattle 7 7d ago

I actually don't know where he gets most of his income from, but I know he makes a stupidly huge amount of money selling supplements, as well as more than enough to retire in luxury from just the donations he gets from fans. But I don't know what the percentage breakdown is of his various sources of legal income.

I wouldn't be shocked if he had some illegal sources of income, too.

1

u/Sciencetor2 9 7d ago

Most of his income is the supplements and other stuff in his store according to testimony, though Bitcoin donations provided something like 8 million recently

-55

u/NonTrollAccountLOL 0 7d ago

This doesn't make any sense? Fuck Alex Jones but still 45 million dollars in damages for what? Even if they lost their job for something Alex said which they didn't. It wouldnt end up being 45 million dollars. How does this ever hold up in court?

25

u/nowihaveamigrane A 7d ago

Sandy Hook parents have had constant death threats, been doxed over and over, had to move for their own safety repeatedly, been harassed by crazy conspiracy theorists for years. Yes, they deserve every penny of that money. Can you even imagine losing your child in a mass shooting and being told he never existed and you are lying, are a crisis actor and not being allowed to mourn your child? Having their grave vandalized?

Alex Jones could have admitted he lied years ago and told his cult to leave these people alone but instead he kept stoking the flames. I hope he ends up penniless. And you are part of the problem, worrying about him having to pay for his sins.

15

u/Twodotsknowhy 7 7d ago

They are punitive damages. They are for punitive reasons.

10

u/supersonicserotonin 3 7d ago

It’s “punitive” aka a punishment.

20

u/hugsandambitions 3 7d ago

In short, there are two reasons

One is emotional damage. Money doesn't fix it but it sure doesn't make it worse.

Two is that it's a punishment. It's not about how much the families deserve to get, it's about how much Jones deserves to lose. This is a common practice in courts. For a similar example look at states where an employer who fails to pay earned wages (say $200) could be forced the pay their employee an additional 1000% in punitive fines. It's not because the employee earned $2,200. It's supposed to be a punishment so severe that would-be perpetrators never consider for even a moment that it might be easier to just let it happen once in a while.

And once all that money is taken from the perpetrator, it has to go somewhere so why not his victims?

6

u/SwiFT808- 7 7d ago

As someone in the legal field thanks for such a good answer.

1

u/hugsandambitions 3 6d ago

Hey thanks! I'm not in the legal field, I just happen to be a victim of stolen wages and learned firsthand how it works.

On a related note, if you're ever feeling the urge for a national build-your-own burrito chain, I highly recommend Qdoba over any.... Other options. As I understand it, Qdoba pays their employees and everything!

4

u/docmn612 7 7d ago

Thanks for the explanation. I think I knew this intuitively, but it’s good to see it in words.

21

u/MexicanSnowSniper 5 7d ago

I think it's hard to fully understand the whole situation until your child is murdered and then you receive death threats from random people who were led to believe that your recently murdered child wasn't really murdered.

19

u/Wolffontech 0 7d ago

This isn’t to compensate the family for any damages they suffered. that would be compensatory damages.

The 45 million is for punitive damages, meaning that this is an additional punishment to prevent future actions of this time either by Alex Jones or others who may be thinking of doing something like this.

7

u/thedecoy 5 7d ago

Look into punitive damages. Basically sums can get this high to deter the behavior. Imagine if it was much smaller then he’d continue to act this way if he felt it was worth it.

8

u/StoneRockMan 8 7d ago

It was actually 4m in actual damages and 45m in punitive damages.

The 4m covers the pain and suffering and whatever they had to do to avoid the InfoWars fans who were harassing and threatening them. The 45m is the court punishing Jones for acting in bad faith, not telling the truth in court, and making a point to not do this kind of shit.

4

u/UselessManatee 4 7d ago

Its because he made a whole lot of money off of spreading these lies, so the courts want to discourage that behavior in society, by making him pay the families for loss and adding on punitive damages to ensure that the payment is substantive enough to discourage this kind of behavior.

2

u/Maroon_Mist 3 7d ago

These are punitive damages (designed to punish the defendant). This is on top of the 4 million in compensation that was also awarded. As the defendant owns and operates a lucrative business that made money by exploiting this narrative, it was considered appropriate to withhold any and all profits he might have earned by peddling in this misfortune of the other party.

4

u/ConfusedEchoShow 6 7d ago edited 7d ago

Punitive means they act as a punishment for the defendant. The parents were only owed 4 million for the actual defamation, but Alex's continual poor conduct in court resulted in these punitive charges.

3

u/Tribat_1 9 7d ago

Punitive damages are when the jury can award extra money as a punishment to the defendant over what the plaintiff has in damages.

54

u/goddangol 7 7d ago

Can we sue Marjorie Greene Taylor like this next??

4

u/effectsjay 6 7d ago

3

4

u/Dan-Defyno 7 7d ago

11

u/RelaNarkin 8 7d ago

Niche? If it was niche I wouldn’t be seeing InfoWars stickers on every other stop sign and drive thru where I live

1

u/S00thsayerSays 9 7d ago

He’s a millionaire but 45 million fucking dollars? Fuck Alex Jones but he ain’t that damn rich

4

u/Sciencetor2 9 7d ago

According to the experts who examined his net worth it's between 130 and 270 million

9

u/SergeantMeowmix 2 7d ago

The economist at court estimated (because Jones wouldn't share the exact figure) he's likely worth somewhere in the mid-100-million to mid-200-million range. You have to remember that he has a lot of revenue streams going, not just what is obvious in the merchandise and product sales, the monthly supporters, social media advertising revenue, and his very lucrative sponsorship deals. All of his financials are hidden and shell gamed behind LLCs and the like, too. So, yeah.

6

u/BuckeyeInSeattle 7 7d ago

He's worth north of $100 million. There was an article about it last week, but unfortunately my wife read me the relevant bits out loud, so I don't remember where it was published.

Anyway, the gist was that he makes a lot of money selling supplements. Like an inconceivable, stupidly large amount. He also makes significant money from donations from his fans-- I can't remember whether it was millions, but it was at least upper 6 figures per year. Then there's his sponsorship money, and speaking fees-- if you're Alex Jones, you're probably charging $25K-$100k to show up to an event, stay for a couple of hours shaking hands, and giving a 30 minute talk which is just the same content as your radio show, so no need to do any preparation.

Hopefully someone will link the actual article.

I didn't think he could possibly be making anywhere near as much money as he is, either, but an article from a reputable source (I remember it was mainstream, like NY Times or something like that) breaks it down in detail. And as someone else mentioned, we have records of $61 Million that he moved to offshore accounts over the last two years alone, with no effort to hide his tracks; it seems unlikely that was all of his net worth.

1

u/yunivor 9 6d ago

Sounds like putting him in jail is the only way to actually punish him a little.

2

u/HumanOrion 7 7d ago

He's absolutely that rich.

14

u/Bradleyy13 6 7d ago

He made 800k a day. He’s a lot wealthier than this. The right is the most brainwashed, so easy to make money from them.

2

u/kylediaz263 8 7d ago

I can imagine he's making pretty good money but holy shit 800k a day just for talking shit? How?

5

u/SergeantMeowmix 2 7d ago

Ad revenue, product placement, merch sales, supporter donations, brand sponsorships, appearance fees, book fees and residuals, hosting fees, to name a few. I've only listened to his show a few times (whenever he said something particularly batshit that got picked up by the wider media), but he hawks and slings products better than most QVC salesmen. Comes with the territory of being a grifter.

2

u/Mighty_Zote 5 7d ago

When they brought it up at court and Alex was on the stand, his response to the 800k amount was "oh, well that was CPAC weekend" and then promptly realized that it was shutting time. So, who knows how much of his money comes from this citizens united deathknell for democracy allowing political contribution money yo go anywhere for anything. Also, he shills a lot of snake oil type vitamins and supplements, especially boner pills.

1

u/Sciencetor2 9 7d ago

HOMEOPATHIC boner pills, not even, like, real ones

6

6

u/Meflakcannon 7 7d ago

He has at least 61M because he moved that out of some accounts before declaring bankruptcy.

14

u/I_wood_rather_be 8 7d ago

Because all the alt right shows are backed up by big money to help destabilize democracy.

Free speech is about protection from the government you idiot. It doesn't prevent consequences from the things you say to other people in the slightest. "talk shit, get hit"

11

u/Twodotsknowhy 7 7d ago

Defamation isn't free speech. You have about the same understanding of constitutional rights as the most annoying kid in 2nd grade.

3

u/hugsandambitions 3 7d ago

Do you also bitch about not being allowed to yell fire in a crowded theater?

Free speech has limits, it cannot be used to harm others without consequence. That's not a threat to democracy, and plenty of countries have laws against it and still have stable democracies.

7

u/Evolone100 4 7d ago

This comment is ridiculous. You have the right to free speech until you defame someone in doing so. He lied about Sandy hook called the victims crisis actors on his show and that the kids were all made up. This made his minions go after the victims families of this horrific event.

Honestly do some fucking research before you open your pie hole on the internet defending free speech for an idiot like Jones.

3

u/Hellion1982 7 7d ago

Opinions don‘t equal hateful lying and hate mongering. This mongrel deserves to have its wallet and nuts pulled off.

3

u/thewhitebean97 4 7d ago

Hold on just went through your comment history and I see that I wasted my time, you’re brain dead. Carry on

1

u/Upbeat-Conflict-1376 4 7d ago

There are limits on free speech, there have always been limits on free speech, and Jones went way fucking over the limit.

3

u/thewhitebean97 4 7d ago

There’s a major difference in having an opinion and speaking on it and repeatedly attacking people that went through something incredibly traumatic. How would you feel if you had a son that was murdered and I went on national tv and called it fake over and over again for money.

1

u/ConstantSample5846 1 7d ago

Plus there’s a cap in Texas on these types of settlements, so it’ll end up being way less.

2

u/Maroon_Mist 3 7d ago

It's not a settlement, it was awarded by the jury. There might be a reduction upon appeal and or through bankruptcy action as a result of this verdict.

1

u/Sciencetor2 9 7d ago

That's what he meant. Texas caps punitive damages. They don't cap economic damages, which is why the defense attorney spent most of his closing statement lying to the jury and telling them that if they really wanted to teach Jones a lesson they should totally file most of the money under punitive damages, which they did. Without letting them know those were capped of course.

Did a close family member of yours get killed as a child in a horrible event? Robbing you, them and all the people they could have known from experiencing the life they deserved? Did a that man get rich by peddling lies and snake oil? One of those lies being that the child never existed and you were an actor, that it was a hoax to introduce stricter gun laws?

That is this situarion, in a nutshell. You are despicable to mock these people.

-19

u/Solaris-Id 5 7d ago

If that's all it takes to get 45 milly? Rest assured 99.9999999% of the world's population would be on board with that. You'd do well to remember Alex Jones didn't actually kill anyone and this is payout money for like 20 actual fatalities rather than just talking shit.

And I'm more mocking the "justice system" here than anything.

2

u/Euly 5 7d ago

Maybe, but those millions are not part of a transaction the victims pre-agreed to receive in return for the entire horrific experience, they have psychotic and violent people from all over the country calling and showing at their homes, threatening them, their families, their friends, their employers/businesses. This will probably go on forever because hundreds of thousands of people subscribe to Jones’ ideologies and many of them defend those ideas by harassing people who they see as threats to their world, such as these victims who had their kids murdered.

5

u/ayers231 9 7d ago

Charles Manson didn't kill anyone either. Should he be free to continue convincing others the kill for him?

4

u/Davido400 8 7d ago

Isnt that how it works over there? They sue you for a mental amount(which that fat cock womble could easily afford given his sad fans) and you declare yourself bankrupt and you can start again? Might be wrong or overly simplifying it but in Scotland we just knock fuck out of folks!

3

u/WasntxMe 3 6d ago

Unfortunately, for rich people, bankruptcy is a reward, not a punishment. The reward is eliminating debts. They move or sell assets to corporations which are off limits. Florida has significant protections personally.

O.J. Simpson was found guilty in a civil trial, family awarded 33.5 million. He paid less than 1%.

Alex is probably back to work making minimum wage "on paper". Access to over 200 million, per article.

The article clearly states the 40+ mil punitive amount is capped by Texas law to 750k. This was all pricey publicity for him. His troops are still rallying, i'm sure.

2

u/Davido400 8 6d ago

Ah OJ, even I got to watch his car chase on the 6 o clock news here in Scotland lol didn't know who he was at the time but vividly remember that car chase lol, can't be arsed looking it up but isn't he in jail now for armed robbery these days?(could be a different crime but I'm sure its armed robbery lol) I'll give you some Sean Lock Comedy on the matter, its from 7.00 onwards, I do suggest watching it, he's great! There are two more trials. They are leaving something for the other families.

Plus, those texts may put him in jail.

Can we use this to fund Ukrainian efforts

While that would be a good idea if it was a fine to the government, it would be a great idea. However, I think this is supposed to be mostly compensation for the utter HELL this man’s lies put the families through, that had already lost their very young children to being shot by a psycho.

Why in the actual fuck would they do that? What an insanely brain dead take. The Ukrainian war and the parents of Sandy Hook have nothing to do with each other. Why would you even link the two and suggest such a stupid thing?

The families have had years of injustice thrown upon them, years of suffering and pain. They're entitled to that money and they deserve every damn cent.

The US is already spending billions and just today approved another billion dollars of weapons. The world is already pouring money for humanitarian aid, and you can donate yourself if you want.

What sort of cocaine have you been snorting to think money from something completely unrelated should go to something completely unrelated.

Unrelated didn't he help elect trump isn't trump being extorted by the pee pee tapes. Isn't this conflict happening because of all that. Isn't the NRA pro Russian.
