Commuting Light Rail Fares

Just took the light rail from downtown Mesa to the Science Center for a conference on STEM issues. I didn't have time to buy a ticket at first and jumped on the train that was about to depart. Downloaded app to buy a ticket... The app doesn't yet have the capacity for ticket purchases LOL! PayPal could do this in literally one day.

On way back, tried to buy a ticket on Washington, but the screen was so burned out it was impossible to read the multistage instructions... LOL.

Why doesn't the transit system care? It's the light rail effectively free then?

Living Here Is it allergy season or am I just unlucky?

Recently I had some minor sniffles and no fever. But I seem to have come out of it and now for the last two days I've been itching my whole body non-stop . Took some Benadryl and it's alleviated it for a bit but I break out after a couple hours, so I gotta pop another.

Never in my 30 years have I had allergies, did I just grow one suddenly or could it be something else? I even cleaned my sheets. 😭 I'm so confused rn.

I like to take long 1/2 hours walk around Tempe Town Lake, Downtown Phoenix area, and Eldorado Park in Scottsdale. But lately I've been wanted to explore other areas. Do anyone have any recommendations?

  • Can't really do hiking right now.

Eat & Drink Southern vegetarian catering in PHX?

I'm trying to find someone to cater a lunch who can do the following:

- Southern food

- all of which is vegetarian

- (ideally) some is vegan

- (ideally) at least a little bit is gluten-free

(I realize this makes me sound like a high-maintenance client, but I really am not. Promise!)

So probably mostly sides-focused, like mac n cheese, cornbread, greens, etc. Or if there's other things
that would work that's cool too!

Does anyone know a restaurant or chef who does this sort of thing?

Things To Do Random fun (possibly free or cheap) things to do the Phoenix area?

Basically the title. I just took a free improv class at Bridge Improv theater; that was a blast and I would recommend it for others. I'm just looking for other new/random/unique fun things that offered somewhere in Phoenix or surrounding suburbs.

Some things I plan to check out are some of these cool/weird shops listed in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/comments/x47gfk/coolweird_little_shops_in_the_valley/

Any other fun things I should look into?

Outdoors Where do you like to bike?

I just moved downtown and I started using cycling as a mental health tool. I’ve been doing 15-25 miles 4-5 days a week.

I’ve been riding on the “Sonoran bikeway” that goes from Roosevelt down to the grand canal and back. It’s a great trail but I’ve done it dozens of times now. And honesty I recognize it’s not the safest (especially by myself)

So local bikers where do you like to go ride? Also any groups that are looking for a new member? I hate cycling alone (especially going through parts of the canal, man i saw some sketchy stuff yesterday) Feel free to PM if that’s better! Thanks. Edit: thanks for all the great advice!

Living Here What's something happening in Phoenix you feel good about?

There's plenty to be worried about or complain about in the Valley, but there's also a lot of good things that happen.

What's something you're excited about, or has made you feel good? Maybe something going on in your own life, a business or a show coming up, whatever it happens to be.

Ask Phoenix Four Peak Oktoberfest Fest

I was looking at upcoming events happening in/or around Phoenix and I am thinking on checking out the Tempe Town Lake Oktoberfest happening next weekend Oct 7-9.

Wanted to get some info from folks that have gone already. Is food/beer expensive, how is the ambience, best time of the day to go (afternoon/evening), and cool things to try?

Anything helps! Thanks I’m advance.

Eat & Drink For any of my fellow ramen lovers, highly recommend trying Ramen Dozo in Tempe. It’s the best ramen I’ve had in the valley.

Things To Do Things to Do This Week in Phoenix (September 26 - October 02)

Week of: September 26 - October 02

This is a weekly thread of some of the goings-on in and around the Phoenix metro area. Feel free to subscribe to our public Google Calendar of meetups and events as well.

This is not meant to be an all-inclusive list. Such a list would be large and unwieldy. If there is an event that you don't see posted here, please add a comment below. In the comment, include the event, date, time, cost (if any), and location. A brief description would also be dandy. Please upvote people who share good/interesting events, even if it may not be something you will attend. Don't see anything of interest? Click on any one of the dates to be taken to a comprehensive listing of events for that day over at the Phoenix New Times' web site.

If you organize or know of a meet-up that you'd like to promote, please PM the mods and we'll look into getting it added to the calendar. We'll post these events up to six weeks out. At that point, we ask that you ping us again. This just helps to ensure that the events stay fresh and no defunct events appear on the calendar.

With that said, the moderators of r/Phoenix (including but not limited to their families, friends (ha!), pets, and possessions) are not responsible for errors in these listings. Please take the time to verify the date, time, location, and cost of an event before you head out.
